Because the (K)night - Patti Smith

The new Moth Traps continue to come up with the goods as another 2 species were added* to the Property List this morning. Not even able to see the bright lights of the airport just half a mile away at dawn, it was in question which way I would head today if I headed anywhere at all.
LARGE WAINSCOT*
AUTUMNAL MOTH*
PINE CARPET
BEADED CHESTNUT
TORTRIX Sp
SMALL TORTOISESHELL
Found in some old sunbed covers about to be committed to the
bonfire before a keen-eyed Janet spotted it. By its torpid state
it seemed as if it had already commenced hibernation?
Continuing the search for the Lost Knight and his Lovely Lady, I was directed a further 2 miles up the road to the somewhat larger village of
Take me now baby here as I am
Pull me close, try and understand
Desire is hunger the fire I breathe
Love is a banquet on which we feed

and immediately felt there was a good chance of finding 'Avalon'.
While the SCHOOL HOUSE looked relatively new
by comparison with the other buildings close by
there was an immediate feel of the
'Medieval' here!
Come on now try and understand
The way I feel when I'm in your hands
Take my hand come undercover
They can't hurt you now,
Can't hurt you now, can't hurt you now

While the original Church of ALL HALLOWS was mentioned in
The Doomsday Book the present building has an 18th century core
with late 19th and early 20th century additions.
This was the most likely place I was going to find our Templar but
there was much else around me to be seen such as the

ALMSHOUSES
and the GATEHOUSE to St Giles Manor.
Entering by the main Church door there was
evidence of GRAFFITI from the Classical Period but long before
Knights were known to strike their swords on these door jambs.
Have I doubt when I'm alone , love is a ring, the telephone
Love is an angel disguised as lust
Here in our bed until the morning comes
Come on now try and understand
The way I feel under your command
Take my hand as the sun descends
They can't touch you now,
Can't touch you now, can't touch you now
Because the night belongs to lovers ...

A fine building indeed and on my first glance around words I had
long forgotten, and taught my children, came flooding back.
ROOD SCREEN
usually a highly decorated partition separating the Naive (or main
body of the Church) from the High Altar.
FONT complete with ornate (what I believe is called a) PYX not to be confused with a box that contains the Eucharist? Some I have seen in the past are so large a pulley or crane is used to remove them.
The Monument to Anthony Ashley-Cooper 1st Earl of Salisbury
(note the Little Girl kneeling.
and the inscription, if you can make anything of it?
More Monuments
and a fine ceiling and then, was this what we were looking for?

A KNIGHT in SHINING ARMOUR
but not as colourful as I remember, and NO Lady!
Search over and time to take a steady stroll
around the rest of the village
Mighty MAPLE/ACERs of sorts there are 3 in total
making up this fine sight across the Village Green.
This fine looking house caught my eye, worthy of a
closer look and on approach something else of Great interest.
What appeared to be the original
VILLAGE STOCKS
Explanation for our readers in other lands, Stocks were an ancient form of punishment where the felon would be shackled, hands and feet, into the grooves provided (bottom) and all others were at liberty to pelt them with rotten fruit and vegetables.
Another fine 'Tiled Roof' house
and another with 'Thatched Roof'.
Our Knight still remains 'unfound' but early days yet. My friend Janet is already working on the conundrum and I feel sure she will come up with the answer. As soon as she does I'll be on the case!
