Phoenix - Wishbone Ash

Love 'em or hate 'em the Moths here are certainly attracting quite a bit of interest. With 2 traps quite close to the Parley Court Golf Club several members have stopped and asked firstly, what am I doing then can they have a look, in fact there have even been a few who have brought specimens along for me to identify. On the same theme the overnight catches have continued to be 'very good' but having said that neither of the 2 milestones of 100 species and 1000 Macros in a single session have been reached yet. There have been a number of highlights some of which will follow shortly. On the downside Hugh and Janet have arrived back from France (that's not the downside) after he had successfully completed the L' ETape du Tour de France to find Raynard had slaughtered all but 2 of the chickens. As Foxes will they 'kill all and take one' so when the time is right a few more will be saved from Slaughter House after their life in the Battery.
MOCHA*
one of a most delightful and dainty family.
MAIDEN'S BLUSH
we have caught a number of these on the Farm but not quite so
pristine as this individual.
VESTAL
fresh in from across the English Channel
When these 2 were removed from the trap it was though they were of 2 species.
With the left one is lacking the ovate markings between the 2 bars I
suppose this could be forgiven (anything for a 'Tick') but they are both
SMALL PHOENIX
Something of a 'good catch'
DARK SPINACH*
No doubting these 2 Green Goddesses are of different species
SCARCE SILVER-LINES (top) with GREEN SILVER-LINES
the latter an addition to the Year List.
and another bit of a heart stopper but don't panic it is simply a worn
ROSY FOOTMAN
a much better example the lower image.

DOG'S TOOTH*
SCALLOPED OAK
 another immigrant
GEM
SMALL RIVULET
14-SPOT LADYBIRD
Good to report that the
GREENFINCH
have done so well at Parley this year. The deficit has been no
House Martins.
HEDGE BINDWEED
 HOGWEED
BLACKBIRD
likely preparing for a 'third brood'?
Young SWALLOWs still abound
and are a great indicator of the presence of the locally breeding
Sparrowhawks.
 ASH
Another brood of
MUTE SWAN
on the River Stour while the 8 youngsters on Parley Pond continue to thrive.
Another ASH but undoubtedly the most magnificent tree on the property!
 SOLDIER BEETLE
 GREENBOTTLE
MUGWORT
 NIPPLEWORT
 REDSHANK
and thought you might like to meet my companion who meets
me close to Janet's Horse Stables.
Even these young birds
are very much the opportunist
but a little annoying nicking all the exposed Moths before I get a chance
despite the earliness of the hour.
 ROWAN
 SMOOTH HAWKSBEARD
 TUSSOCK SEDGE
WHITE (Grey) WILLOW
YARROW
