Ships That Pass In The Day

Seriously bleak on the wildlife front today but at least the weather continued to hold with little wind, a few outbreaks of sunshine although a little cooler.

Starting off at Ferry Bridge there was some interest in Portland Harbour as HM Border Agency Cutter was about to leave as the Ocean Tug SD Victoria arrived.

On the other side of the road, a small party of 15 (Dark-bellied) Brent Geese were on the fore-shore as a few more were arriving.

Dark-bellied Brent Goose

Luckily I stayed long enough to see another small party arrive with among them 2 Pale-bellied Brent Geese.

From the bus window and on my way to Portland, this sleek looking warship was tied up alongside certainly not a Royal Navy vessel (on colour alone) but could be one constructed for the Omani Navy? At Southwell I was met by fellow birder John Lucas who alerted me to a Hen Harrier hunting along the Bill Road. Without further ado I called in to get the Secret Lemonade Drinker, as he would very likely want to see it, then set off together to search the area. No luck I'm sorry to say, but there were a couple of RN Destroyers heading towards the harbour,

with this one being HMS York.

There were 2 Common Buzzards perch and at least 4 Kestrel but no sign of a Harrier, so we headed back to Gary's house where in the garden were an array of

Fungi

and what looks every bit like a regurgitated bird pellet of sorts?

Short but maybe sweet, but who knows what tomorrow will bring.
