Rio - Duran Duran

Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand
Just like that river twisting through a dusty land
And when she shines she really shows you all she can
Oh Rio Rio dance across the Rio Grande
The heavy overnight rain had abated long before dawn leaving just a hint of stratus to welcome another day on the Atlantic Coast.
There were hopes of a return to the Rain Forest today, but Hilda had made it plainly clear that 'public transport' (taxis, there are no buses) were expensive, but I hadn't bargained for prohibitively so! It isn't that I don't have $US80, but for an 8Km return ride? and walking, despite the shortish distance, ain't an option you'd be 'broiled' on arrival.

Breakfast was, as usual, shared with the local squadron of opportunist GREATER ANTILLEAN GRACKLE,
while an ever watchful GREY KINGBIRD awaited the next hapless insect. It was decided to pay another visit to the estuary and foreshore.
Then, there they were perched on telephone wires
awaiting a closer approach.
CARIBBEAN MARTIN carrying out this bill-cleaning technique.
Wandering the path among the Mangroves this
YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT HERON
couldn't have been more obliging,
so why then did I have to make such a
Dog's Dinner of the photos?
OK guys, you can return to altitude now!
Looking to Seaward (north)
and in the opposite direction to EL YUNQUE mountain.
First on the beach a SPOTTED SANDPIPER
with a few 'spots'.
She sells, Sea Shells
on the Sea Shore.

Then down river came a couple of local Fishermen,
so prospects of the kind of encounter I just LOVE!
They had 'caught' and were quite happy to share the experience
(if not the fish) with me.
FRYING TONIGHT!
KINGFISH (now you're talking)
HAMMERHEAD SHARK
A MIXED BAG
The same HAMMERHEAD and SAND SHARK
and so to the birds.
The TURNSTONE and SANDERLING were still here.

SANDERLING
TURNSTONE
and what do we have here?
If the identity of this slightly larger Wader needed confirming,
a short flight reveled the rufous rump of a
KILLDEER.
So Bowie and Shiela (sic), instead of standing around in Cornwall hour after hour, why not just come out here?
GREATER ANTILLEAN GRACKLE striking a strange pose.

and while the going's good
why not 'capture' a few more 'perched'
CARIBBEAN MARTINs?
