Jonathan Livingstone Seagull - Richard Bach (Part III)

If it keeps on rainin', levee's goin' to break
If it keeps on rainin', levee's goin' to break
When the levee breaks I'll have no place to stay
Mean old levee taught me to weep and moan
Lord mean old levee taught me to weep and moan
It's got what it takes to make a mountain man leave his home
Oh well, oh well, oh well

It was simply too much of a temptation as we approached
Prince Rupert, a fairly large town in
British Columbia
CANADA
to gaze out of the window to see what must have been 'hundreds' of
 BALD EAGLEs
The decission wasn't difficult as to miss such a spectacle would have been an avian tragedy indeed, and there would be another coach heading north at some stage. As it turned out this was also to be a 'bunkering' stop, so plenty of time but whatever atracted me to snap a Magpie. Up until then this Yank was still concidered to be Pica pica the same as we see at home, but in years to come it was 'split' to become the specific species

(tick)
Not long after we reached the township of
 Dawson Creek
which, along with my travlling companion in those days, we had done great justice.
Apart from the wonders of this place (some of which are show below) it is also
Mile Zero
(noted on the top of the square post) on the
Alaskan Highway
and not to mention my own 12,000th mile of this trip thus far!
plus a venue for an annual
 Wood Choppers Ball
Next was something which held no significance on the last trip, in fact not even noticed then,
but why should it as in those days I was working for Joe Shell but currently for
 TALISMAN ENERGY
of Calgary and this one of their subsiduary offices.
Maybe needless to say this was well worth a knock on the door before embarking on the next project.
Buttering up the Coach Driver can have many advantages with a little bull going a very log way.
Most advantageously a 'pole position' seat at the front
with excellent views of all before you!
However, it worked magically for us on the last trip when our coxswain suggested, as being Wildlife Entusiasts, that we stay at
for 3 days when on his next run he would pick us up and continue north.
You could not make it up as to what happened next as at 06:00 sat in the
 Cafe
on what had been our camp-site
enjoying a fine cup of coffee and cheese and bacon bagel and
admiring the Cap Collection.
in walked this gentleman and issued a jaunty Good Morning with us replying in the same fashion,
which led him to enquire "that's England is it not"?
Once confirmed he said he had 10 minutes business to conduct out back when he would return and
Take Us On A Tour!
We had by then crossed the clear and bright highest point on the Highway where Colin Leake took us firstly and was found to be a 'White-Out'
Snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow.
In the deep mid-winter long ago!
However, this was June!
Phoning his wife Heather from the peak we were invited to dinner and you've seen it on the TV,
this beautiful place was about as far into the wilderness as you could imagine. Before leaving they told us that should we be in the area ever again get someone to phone and we will look after you.
I HAD REACHED THAT MOMENT!

I won't even try - the sign and the following images says it all!

"Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow" as Juliet
once said, but the time was getting near!
However, the Leake's and Co were not letting me go on a low note as a
SURPRISE
had already been formulated. That final Sunday morning a whole gang of them
turned up armed to the teeth while all that was left for me was being

while Colin does shoot all his own meat the day's targets were nothing but fresh air.
OLD LUKE
who had heard of my departure popped over to give me a belated
welcome back followed by a couple of songs and a timely goodbye.
As the Greyhound pulled out from outside of the Cafe
Road Line Painting
was still in full swing, you would have thought it might be finished by now
after all it's only 1390 miles long.
Mind, back and forth to B and Q takes up a lot of time?
Well this really does seem to have turned into a Magnum Opus so whether we decide to
continue or not will be decided on a show of hands.
All those in favour = 13, All against = 8
