Once the Urge Takes Them!

It would seem that if you want to start the day with a BANG all you need do is stand on the doorstep

and listen to the refrain of a likely newly arrived
SEDGE WARBLER
then add it to the list of
Firsts for the Year
before continuing in the same vein adding a few Moths
such as
MARBLED MINOR
GREEN PUG
WHITE ERMINE
and for today at least
SCALLOPED HOOK-TIP
while afterwards at the small subsuduary pond
we stopped to admire the
YELLOW WATER IRIS
the only specimen now left here,
while along the same track what we can only describe as a
POM-POM TREE
not knowing the proper name despite holding the
School Leaves Certificate in Gardening
(which came in very handy during a lifetime at sea!)
There were more arborials but not before checking the
GREAT TIT NEST BOX
where we saw them all in
and then saw them all out!
Next a branch full of yougsters we hope.
Another sight and sound not to be missed was this vocal
GOLDFINCH
and then a
ROWAN
in full bloom, before heading north and finding a newly arrived
but strangely
a lone young
COOT
and to redress the balance at the
Gravel Pit
this seemingly lone
MOORHEN
nest building.
