Little Bird - Annie Lennox

Life continues at a steady pace, but over the last few days
we seem to have spent more time in the Cutting Room, editing
photographs, than 'out in the fieild'.
 MOTTLED BEAUTY
 POPLAR GREY
 UNCERTAIN
but now we're not so sure?
Yes, that is the name of the Moth.
Additionally, we gathered in
 NARROW-WINGED HORSEFLY
 RED-HEADED CARDINAL BEETLE
along with no few than c14
ELEPHANT HAWK-MOTHs
Up on the Common and more particularly the Fencing Centre
the place seems to have been alive with juvenile
SONG THRUSH
so we are all the better for that!
 Continuing the Young Bird theme
 SAND MARTIN
(presumed from our local colony)
appear to have done very well while
 REED BUNTING
 never as numerous
have also shown great success.
What do seem to have been lacking however are juvenile
  SWALLOW
which we feel sure will turn up in their own good time and
at which point we hope to be able to publish some images.
(yes we know "ordered Fish are never caught")
JUVENILE SAND MARTIN with SWALLOW
Some, if not all of this success may be due to a lack of
 GREY SQUIRREL
in our area, this being the first in quite a few weeks.
All else for the day centred on the various ponds where among others
 BROAD-BODIED CHASER
more youngsters this time
 MALLARD
 COMMON BLUE DAMSELFLY
and
KEELED SKIMMER
(accompanied by a singing Whitethroat)
all featured and we can bring you the latest on the young
LITTLE GREBE
which continues to thrive and seems to become more 'self sufficient' by the day.
Finally, on our way back we once again caught the
RED-EARED TERRAPIN
soaking up more rays at Parley Pond.
