Still dogged by a couple of technical difficulties, causing delays in publication, the weather turning to heavy persistent rain throughout the day (28th) and a transit to Portland it is hoped things will level out over the next couple of days. On the up side, my new camera card reader arrived in express time along with a new 50G external hard drive allowing me to catch up a couple of days. Bank Holiday weekend, come and gone, but by early Friday the novelties were starting to arrive in the town with this ancient

turning more than a few heads.

The HOODED MERGANSER
was still at Westham Bridge along with this

cob MUTE SWAN

 feeding his Cygnets close by.

 there's a very 'lucky' brood of young
BLACKBIRDs

somewhere close by looking at this overloaded female.

 HERRING GULL
and back on the Isle of Portland yesterday.
Birds here seemed in 'desperate' small numbers
despite a reasonable day weather-wise.

 First to show were the ever reliable Lighthouses.

now the Portland Bird Observatory and Field Centre

and the active LIGHTHOUSE

Copulating GREEN-VEINED WHITE BUTTERFLIES
if the identification is right this time,

along with a couple of 'suspicious looking characters emerging from
Culverwell.
