Feathering Your Own Nest

 Having hoped that

Jack Frost
had gone for good we returned to reality to find a thin veneer on the tennis court but of huge surprise
to fine not 'one' but 'two'
New Species for the Year within the Moth Traps
YELLOW HORNED

along with
OAK BEAUTY
bringing the Annual Total up to 14 species.
During the process it became obvious that one of the local
KESTRELs
was tucking into an equally avian breakfast as our recent and still yet small
MURMURATION
of Starlings, considered to be at least 150 strong, were also feasting on the Tennis Court with a reminder of the recent gale-force winds
cutting across our closely neigbouring
HOLM OAK
and on the Gravel Pit
seemingly the return of
 the male
TUFTED DUCK
as
LINNET
numbers increase across the
Solar Panel Compound
While across the Heath
COAL TIT
showing some sighs of
nest building.

Out of the Blue - E.L.O.

With the overnight high being around the +8°C mark hopes were high but the catch was low and certainly nothing to add to the Moth Year List. Otherwise, a small 'tickle' at the Gravel Pit where was found a potential partner for the recently arrived

male
SHOVELER
with the potential 'mate' already looking frisky!
However, with nothing more to add across the board it was found that the Solar Panel Compound was the place to be starting with a
Small Gaggle of
CANADA GEESE
in addition to which
we would also like to think that these 2 are a pair of
STOCK DOVE
some of which nest in the redundant aircraft close by.
Not to be outdone and not seen for over a month now the still single
RED-LEGGED PARTRIDGE
put in a brief 'fly-by' with images taken from the archive,
while it also looked as if the
MOLE
population were also trying tp catch up with the 'diggings' of the Badgers in recent days, and it was hoped that the single
LAPWING
found within might be the first of the 2023 breeding stock?
A small arrival of an estimated 15 to 20
MEADOW PIPIT
some of which are certain to procreate if not these then those that follow and finaly on our return a
MOORHEN
taking a Walk on the Wildside across the Bridleway.
