From the 'GOODBYE' Album
An
earlier than usual start was called for yesterday as my 'surprise' outing
was nearing. Probably the first and last time I will ever say "it was a
good job numbers were much decreased in the traps" as time was of the
essence. By the time we had planned to leave all traps had been
processed, photographs taken and all insects logged, the Cream of the
Crop being:-
OBSCURE WAINSCOT
a scarce and much sort after Insect I believe and a welcome addition

was filling rapidly.
A wander around, just to get the feel of the place, was well in order

play was just about to start.

We were destined for higher places but with time to kill the stroll continued.
ARE MY SEAMS STRAIGHT CORPORAL?
Ah! the Steward with the drinks.
My company for the day was Daryl, eldest son of Hugh and Janet,
and let's not forget Husband of Cath!
He also made a fine Chauffeur
By 13:00 we had taken or seats on
Centre Court
to witness the first match of the day,
LADIES SINGLE
not a 'full house' by any means and even the
ROUGE'S GALLERY
was deplete.
Only recognised 2 faces and even then may not get the names right.
Front row 4th from left Duke of Kent?? and 6th from left
Camila Parker-Bowles?
Miss Radwanska
went on to win the bout in under one hour.
Good Game!
were next up
The Toss Up
The BBC at work,
along with
Hawk-Eye - OUT!
and while Dimitrov looked the fitter of the two both played some fine shots
but he did win convincingly and in short time.
Final game of the day was the one everyone had come to see,
and included the only name I had heard of (not surprisingly)
NOVAK DJOKOVIC
The 2 young ladies sat next to me told me that the chap diagonally
in front of us was
JIMMY CARR
someone else I had never heard of, who is said to be a Comedian??
Now here is a 'proper' Celeb and someone I readily recognised from
my own generation.
ANN HAYDON JONES
winner of 5 Grand Slams including the 1969 Wimbledon Title
beating the legendary Billy Jean King.
For those, including myself, who thought Stepanek was going to
be a 'walk-over' there was to be a rude awakening.
The man played 'excellent' tennis
over the 3 and a quarter hour contest with the score
not really telling the tale of the game.
A most enjoyable day experiencing yet another of life's milestones
with Many Thanks to both Daryl and Hugh for the opportunity.
