Mouldy Old Dough - Lieutenant Pigeon

Moldy Old Dough Link
Another reasonable haul from the traps after a warm night of
little rain and only a light breeze. However it's quiet a different
story 'out in the field' where the
Summer Doldrums
are now setting in with little to see outside of
Plants and Insects.
Firsts for the Year included
 LESSER YELLOW UNDERWING
 and the tiny migrant
 SMALL MOTTLED WILLOW
 LIME HAWK-MOTH
is always of interest even if not an addition for the year.
During the process of the Traps there was a fly-over of an
AIRBUS A-400 'ATLAS'
RAF Cargo Aircraft.
A short wander along the
RIVER STOUR
did produce one of the Kingfishers breeding here, but all too fast
for the cameraman!
Along the bank we found both
 BULRUSH
maybe not surprisingly and
 some dense patches of
LARGE BINDWEED
before heading north to The Common where things, as previously mentioned
are getting 'very quite'.
Both
CHIFFCHAFF
 and
 WILLOW WARBLER
are still in full song,
while on the Heath the
 BELTED GALLOWAY CALF
goes from strength to strength.
In addition there juvenile
LINNET
seem to be everywhere and over at the Airport the
BLACK BOX IN-FLIGHT RECORD FACTORY
has seen yet another very productive week in the construction.
At the Sewerage Works
a bird that has already in the past been described as 'scarce' here
put in a most obliging appearance.
FERAL PIGEON
a fine looking specimen
which as usual was soon gone!
The first visit to the Gravel Pit had produced a 'blank' so seeing this
ROE DEER
at a second attempt was a bonus.
Back to Barracks, and stood in the doorway of Slight Return II, this
PIED WAGTAIL
landed directly in front of us.
To the strains of 'New Test Leper' track 3 from the R.E.M. album
New Adventures in Hi-Fi.

Jaywalker - Peter Jay and the Jaywalkers

WARNING, there may be a JAY featured in this Post!
Whether you voted IN or OUT is quite academic now, but one thing that
didn't appear above the horizon during the whole 'expensive' shemozzle was a
'clear and concise' explanation of what it entails for each and every resident of
This Sceptred Isle!
Having just locked the Stable Door here is LATE clarification!

In, Out, In Out, SHAKE IT ALL ABOUT!
Supplied by our
Overseas Trade and Industry Correspondent
Sir William Wine, WC and Chain (Pink).
A doubling of the overnight temperature, +16° at dawn but no let up with the wind and rain, brought about a little more interest from the Moth Traps yesterday morning. Among the 214 Macros of 52 Species secured there were c3 additions to the Year List.
 BUFF ARCHES
 COMMON FOOTMAN
FAN-FOOT
in comparison with the much smaller
SMALL FAN-FOOT
which was recorded a few days ago.
 ROBIN
 going for a 'second brood'.
 BULBOUS BUTTERCUP
 COMMON BLUE DAMSELFLY
in a 'teneril' state, which is to say freshly emerged and not
yet having attained its full colours.
Both of these Fungi are of the Species
 AGROCYBE
WOOD SPEEDWELL
MAGPIE
LITTLE RINGED PLOVER
 at Airport balancing Pond.
WOOD PIGEON
Invited to dinner at Harbins Farmhouse there seemed no need to take
the optics, but ain't it always the way. A little idle chatter before the meal
and this
JAY
looking lie a 'young' bird
appears right outside of the kitchen window!
Having only ever seen one at this location before,
and the Species so difficult to photograph anyway,
we decided to publish all the Stills and Clips that we got.
Thank goodness Janet's new Canon was on hand.
Later it was joined by another bird not exactly given to
tolerating human activity a

I Can't Stand the Rain - Ann Peebles

With both rain and wind still prevailing there was just a glimmer of hope as the dawn temperature 'rocketed' from +6°C of the previous day to +8C° but there was little to show for it. It was the day before these 'balmy' heights were reached that
 FOUR-DOTTED FOOTMAN
graced the traps but all else was
of a slightly less usual nature
a 'dark morph'
CORONET
 ORDINAIRE
 for comparison
With these c10
EGYPTIAN GEESE
having now been seen on a daily basis by someone or other, it was
only yesterday that they were captured by the camera during the
early morning rounds of the Moth Traps.
Something of a mild shock on the Parley Pond Island as at first it
was thought that there had been a 'young'
 ALPACA
added to the troupe, but no just looking 'half the size' after shearing!
All on the Heath amounted to this lone
 MEADOW BROWN BUTTERFLY
and a singing
MEADOW PIPIT
It is now thought that 2 pairs of
 LITTLE RINGED PLOVER
 have successfully bred behind the
Eco Recycling Facility
as yesterday we recorded c3 adult birds in attendance with c5 juveniles.
Adult LRP keeping watch
Unknown if LRP, or any other Wader, ever lay 5 eggs but thought unusual,
as 4 is the norm across the family, this number of youngsters alone points to 2 separate broods?
 While this industrial
HOUSE SPARROW
continued nest building
its mates were taking advantage of the bread scattered on the lawn.
Last night's returns from the
Trail Cameras
produced just two Species
MAGPIE
and
Despite the deterrent, a strategically placed branch, something
persists in perching on the camera!
