Blashford Lakes - Part II

First things first and as has now become the norm a round of the Moth Traps early morning. Not everyones 'cup of tea' I know, but this fascination sees me out of bed every morning now at 05:00 (despite the weather) and making my way to Parley Court Farm. Of late the night time temperatures have remain relatively high and so good returns have been recorded, here are just a few of them from the last few days. With Moths in mind I should make a confession regards a mis-identification on our last post. While I saw the Insect as a Square-spot Rustic it has been pointed out these are 'on the wing' much later in the year and what was in fact caught was a Small Square-spot, which as luck has it is a new addition to the Property List. We post thanks to an astute regular reader for pointing this out and the appropriate amendment has been made. * = First for the Property, # = First for the Year
LIME HAWK-MOTH*
SILVER GROUND-CARPET*
 RIVULET*
a scarce capture I am told

TREBLE LINES#

 SYNDEMIS MUSCULANA*
is added as an attractive little Insect.
As promised, our second visit to Blashford Lakes where, like
everywhere else the place is alive with interest.
BULBOUS BUTTERCUP

before being released.
 Some more shenanigans of the
COMMON TERN
kind.
Keeping an eye skyward with very good reason,
here comes the old man

Blashford Lakes - Part I

The increase in night-time temperature over the past couple of days has seen a marked increase both in species in the Moth Traps plus quite a few additions to the Parley List. Still busy in other direction, I have been unable to get all the editing done I would have liked, but all things come to those who wait! Statistically, the night of the 17 May was most prolific with 119 Macros accounting for 41 species with 6 of those being new to the property.
BLOOD-VEIN
and the same Moth with
MAIDEN'S BLUSH
for comparison.
SMALL SQUARE-SPOT
then for a couple of short periods I was able to pull myself away
from the mundane to visit Blashford Lakes in Hampshire.
GADWALL
BLACK-HEADED GULL
and different from our 'local' birds the
LITTLE RINGED PLOVER
here
can be viewed at almost
point blank range.
A passing
COMMON BUZZARD
JACKDAW
and equally accommodating with the LRP's
LAPWING
Some exhausted Life Buoys here have been strewn with
Willow Withies much to the liking of
COMMON TERN
which were copulating.
Not to be outdone
BLACK-HEADED GULLs
soon flushed them
and then followed suit.
 GREY SQUIRREL
POND SKATER
not so much for the Insect or the photograph for that matter,
but just look at the indentation in the surface tension.
Part Two to follow!
