Another warm night attracted another batch of
First's for the Year Moths
in the shape of

PINE HAWK-MOTH

 one of the 'big boys'

 with abdomen raised, a usual stance

For no other reason than we have been saying let's get down to the

CARP LAKES

and take a look at the Otter Fence which has been errected for
a full nine months now this was where we commenced today's wander.

first to be noticed this year beneath my favourite

OAK TREE
on the property.

Met by this handsome

GRASSHOPPER
at the gateway to the Heath it was only a few minutes before we stumbled across

yet another pair of

WOODLARK

obviously feeding young but a long way from the others previously
reported some weks ago.

Wether they are 'new arrivals' or 'second brooders'

will never be known

but simply gracing our patch

is a wonderment in itself!

Next up was the first

SMALL HEATH
of 2020
and although seen before this year it is always welcome to see such as

SMALL COPPER BUTTERFLIES

in the process of procreating! From there it was to the Airport perimeter fence where loading and

UNLOADING

a number of 
AIRBUS AIRLINERS
carries on almost continuously, maybe we should have a
Clap Evening
for these fine teams?

No great shakes but it was pleasing to get this close to a

RABBIT

seemingly unaware of our presence as was the same for our first of year

BLACK-TAILED SKIMMER

On the return journey the Solar Panel Compound

seemed to be bursting the boundries with

STARLING

with many, in this state of plumage, as
Eye Catching

as any bird you would wish to see!

springs to mind.
2 other suprises within were firstly this huge and considered long time dead

PUFFBALL
type Fungi and this young bird which took some deliberation

 having a 'yellow' tinged belly

but surely a juvenile

WHITETHROAT

and we can already hear, pre-publication the
"oh no's,not again"
but this year alone we have fallen head over heals with  the humble

ROOK

this one right outside our door!

A bit of a dramatic start to the day with overnight temperatures

both this and the Satin were confirmed by 2 of our 
Weymouth Correspondants.

had sprung into bloom before encountering a rather special

 juvenile

Those of you who have been with us since the Second Coming may remember our comments

on Stonechat being a possble breening bird  at the Triange inside the Solar Panel Compound.

 Well it would seem, our very much hoped for prediction

 has come true

with proud parent birds in close attention

 this is a 

First for this part of the Recording Area.

Otherwise something of a quiet day but chance then to try for some slightly better footage,

as promised, of the young

 For some days now we have turned our attentions to a

 Mammal

that is seen very occassionally in this area

 and no sooner had the tought faded out popped this

Clouds - One Direction

With the adverse effect of the stiff breeze countered in part

by the now more than accptable temperatures still the

Moths keep trickling in.

First's for the Year

included

 a most obliging

 CLOUDED BORDER

 SMALL CLOUDED BRINDLE

 GREY DAGGER

and

 TRUE LOVER'S KNOT

 The young

 COOT

is still being nurtured by both parents and seems to be doing very, 

 while the turning of the

Reptile Covers

 produced a further c2

 SMOOTH SNAKES

 but in the process we flushed

 either a roosting or nesting

 NIGHTJAR

 with the cover now moved to hopefully a more appropriate position?

 For the second time this week the viewable beat of the

Moors River

 has been alive with the songs of a number of

REED WARBLER

 while additionally a

 LITTLE EGRET

flew along the tree line before landing close by.

 Starting the drive back to the bridleway

ahead we sighted a second family group of

 CANADA GEESE

 and within the 

Solar Panel Compound

yet another

CUCKOO

it has been a very good year for them thus far!

One of the benifits of the fresh breeze was the

Theraputic Effect of the Swaying Birches

and yet another flight by

NHS Airways

Finally from one of our 

Weymouth Correspodants

 the latest veiw across 

Weymouth Bay.
Although not shown the whole of the P and O fleet (7) are now parked there!

Our spies have been out and tell us that this is just the foundation for the new footpath between

The Isle of Portland

(in the far distance)

and Durdle Door?
