Lightening up a little, we are still running a couple of traps close to home and while nothing to add to the Year List in recent days a steady trickle of also-rans has been pleasing enough.

while from a misty heath a little more activity than in recent weeks.

STONECHAT

are back in decent numbers with the invasive

FERNs

and 'thousands' of associate Webs also pleasing to the eye in what little sunshine there was.

Not to be upstaged

DARTFORD WARBLER's

were both showy and vocal but none able to outshine the

had to be the c2 juvenile

SMOOTH SNAKEs

neither more than 6 inches in length

and to pop the proverbial cherry atop the cake a

BLACK and ORANGE SEXTON BEETLE

with ever present parasites.

 While the nocturnal nuances of the early morning and vocal Grey Heron were short lived, in a matter of a very few moments it seemed those pre-dusk duties were taken over by the slightly more

mellow hoots of a couple of

TAWNY OWL's
from quite different directions.
At what passes for daylight these mornings, we were again at the Moth Traps with nothing new but at least something to pass on to our eager readership.

ROSY RUSTIC

was a welcome enough start but then bolstered by a

BROWN-SPOT PINION
and not a Wasp to be seen the rest amounted to a

performing and equally welcome

HORNET
With expectations far less high than they have been, we first encountered a

serene looking

male

at the Irrigation Pond but in sharp contrast to the

pugilistic

MALLARDs

around the corner

on the

Gravel Pit

Otherwise there seemed to be no more than this loan

TREECREEPER

a species not see or heard since early summer!

 The combination of fresh breeze and heavy rain very nearly detered us from flashing up the Moth Traps, but did restrict ourself to just the 2 on home turf. No great shakes, but between them they did

produce a single each of

ANGLE SHADES
along with

LESSER YELLOW UNDERWING

and a reasonable collective of c4

BLACK RUSTICs

plus more

WASPs

in this single catch than has been the collective total across the whole year thus far, and you might also hear the yaffling of a nearby

GREEN WOODPECKER
on the video clip
as the 07:50

easyJet
once again took to the air.

It also looks like RES the Solar Panel People are gearing up to undertake their own grass cutting operations while we managed to 'click' a brace of juvenile

On another day the humble
STOCK DOVE
may well have been overlooked, but with things being the way they are it was very much a case of

was considered something of a 'scarce find' but not as rare as Acorns which still remain absent.

As heading south the

EMU

popped its head above the parapit while across the southern fields the

PUMPKINs

have ripened nicely and are now on sale on a 'pick-your-own' basis.
