You Never See 'Em All Part III

With more hope in our hearts the following day, as possative info was already being dispensed via the pager, after a most comfortable night at a more than adequate Travel Lodge we were, as Canned Heat might say, "On the Road Again" where at the

it was far more about
PEOPLE
than birds with at least 100 cars already parked along the grass verge,
while the target bird had been seen but only sporadically.
It was highly unlikely that anyone got much more than a 20 second look at the visitor from Asia, a
TWO-BARRED WARBLER
of which there have been fewer than 20 records across the years in Great Britain,
with the ever increasing throng chassing the hapless creature
from
one end of the road to the other.
Our dream fulfilled and our stomach's indicating lunch time we did venture down to the sea-shore
where once stood a Holiday Camp before having been swept away by mighty waves!
We also encountered this
welcoming and adventurous Family, already well into cooking the eggs and bacon but impervious to our hints and the almost mandatory
WIND GENERATORS.
With lunchtime upon us also we had spotted a few things along the course of the
such as
BRENT GEESE
PINTAIL
along with a small gathering of
strangely poised sleeping
SHEEP
but it was now "one-o-clock and time for lunch" - Genesis and fate could not have landed us in a better spot,
roundly agreed to be the BEST
TEA ROOMS
we had ever encountered and one of, if not 'the' highlight of the trip, with
HALLOWEEN
dangling from the branches. We make no apology for dwelling on the matter as met by staff who became immediate friends
and tableaux
of the
Four Seasons
at each quarter and food beyond compare!

Mirrors on the ceiling, pink champagne on ice.
And she said ,"We are all just prisoners here, of our own device".

And in the master's chambers,
they gathered for the feast.
They stab it with their steely knives
, but they cannot kill the beast!

but all to soon it was
time to go home via the

You Never See 'Em All Part I

An 04:00 start on Saturday to undertake the 6 hours drive to Yorkshire in pursuit of a trio of rare birds and thankfully in company of my friend Dave Foot once again.

Beaten to the punch by the 'Birding Goths' it would seem (would loved to have met these people) at a gloomy Saint Aiden's Nature Reseve in Leeds, the only thing that was more gloomy was the lack of a recent sighting, on the day, of a
LONG-TOED STINT
which had been present for a few days prior to our arrival and only the 5th to have been recorded in Great Britain!
To get the rest of the Bad News out of the way, that is the way it stayed not even getting a glimps, or a rumour from others, but there was still a few things of interest not least this massive
COAL SHOVEL
which, maybe inadvertantly, had formed this
Nature Reserve in the first place.
BUCKET
Previously an open-cast Coal Mine with some forward looking person/s seeing it turned over to nature once exhausted of the commodity.
Other Birds of Interest included
the jaunty and numerous
BEARDED TIT
or
BEARDED REEDLING
along with
BLACK-TAILED GODWIT
with
PART II
to come tomorrow.
