Better late than never!

Ruddy Turnstone

So, after what we used to refer to as 'slack hammock' (getting up late) I managed Ferry Bridge by 08-00. There were a few more Waders that of late to be counted, but nothing of great consequence. Dunlin took the top tally, unfortunately curtailing the count at 123 before taking to the air. In addition there were at least 82 Ringed Plovers, a Sanderling, 2 Oystercatchers and 3 Mediterranean Gulls, one of which was a juvenile in that indescribably beautiful plumage. Not a lot to report, and no sign of any Little Ringed, but with pictures, as above, it was well worth the walk. Onto Portland where there was a single Merlin perched on a rock close to the Spirit of Portland statue, but followed by a 'blank' through Barleycrates, Reap Lane and onwards to the Bill. Both John's, Down and Lucas, reported odd migrants (Pied Fly, Redstart, Wheatear etc) but despite a search, nothing.
