In the Middle of an Island - The King Brothers

On completion of a bottle of 1997 Opus One last night (Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe De Rothschild), undoubtedly one of the greatest wine of the New World, it was off to Hamiltons Restaurant on Weymouth seafront.

 

My Oil Rig friend Andy Lindsay and his lady Dawn Partridge had been spending a few days in Lyme Regis before extending their stay to pay me a much appreciated visit.

The first time I have met Dawn, and what a huge treat  a lovely lady indeed.

After the meal we strolled the prom where it was almost inevitably that there would be some

drunk Grockles, a colloquial term for holiday makers. Later we met up with Bowie and Sheila Edwards for a nightcap in the William Henry where I 'forgot' (hic) to take a photie including them.

The day was then taken up with my own version of a Cook's tour of Portland, which I would title The Island from an Open Top Bus, starting with the Sailing Village.

White Stones Cafe is something of a 'locals secret' as behind these cottage style doors lies a well appointed Art Gallery and an even more interesting garden - al fresco Sir?

The George Public house on the thoroughfare known as Reforne is steeped in history and is a meeting place for the Court Leet, a governing body on the Island.
