Brownsberg - Day IV

A bit of a day for the 'camera shy', as most of the new birds recorded failed to pose. Stacks of interesting things to see otherwise so today it's mostly 'other creatures'.
Really want to call this a Hawk-moth, as acting exactly as Hummingbird, with extensive proboscis, rapid wing beat for similar feeding technique but also looks like a pretty Fly?
This is definitely a BUTTERFLY (unless you know differently).
FOREST FUNGI and
FLOWERS
SEED PODS
and FRUIT and SEEDS of a PALM
I now know where the Rasta Man gets his hair style from!
more FUNGI
a tiny BEETLE no bigger than a Garden Pea
The residue from the nights Moth intake, and
an interesting FUNGI that Otte tells me is eaten away by Ants,
leaving just the 'skeleton' if you like.
At last a bird,
and a 'lifer',
and just sitting there for a short while,
GOLDEN-COLLARED WOODPECKER
Although Suriname is reputed to maintain 70% of its surface area as pristine Rain Forest, there are those who are doing their best to buck the trend. From our balcony we can see one of several 'small' Gold Mines and often here the explosions as yet a few more acres fall to mankind.
SKINK in all their various shapes and colours are present
but like the birds some are camera shy!
Before we returned for more of that superb Surinamese Cuisine
a male BLUE DACNIS put in an appearance.
We'll leave you, for today at least, with the
Early Morning Sounds of the Rain Forest
SPIX’S GUAN, MARAIL GUAN, SLATY-BACKED FOREST FALCON, CHANNEL-BILLED TOUCAN, RED-FAN PARROT, RED-THROATED CARACARA, GREATER YELLOW-HEADED VULTURE, AMAZONIAN VIOLACEOUS TROGON, GOLDEN-SPANGLED PICULET, GOLDEN-COLLARED WOODPECKER, BLUE DACNIS, LONG-TAILED HERMIT.
