The first day of October and a game of two halves today as the morning was consigned to normal wanderings in the field, while p.m. by our own choice we were constrained in our ability to maneuver, and very much looking forward to the fact. With the gauge showing 10°C at dawn there was some excitement about the prospect of a decent catch of Moths, which wasn't to be balked at. After trawling through 2 of the containers, without much by way of result, were soon found in the third
Still remember vividly the evening we accidentally first met Gentle Giant. Southampton Gaumont (now the Mayflower) to see Groundhogs feat, Tony TS Mcphee. He had recently acquired a Mellotron, but when your nickname TS stands for 'Top Strat' (as in Stratocaster Guitar) that's what you buy a ticket for. Doubt it would have made much difference as 'GIANT' hit the stage with their 'in your face' style of Prog Rock, not even the reincarnation of Elvis could have pulled it off.

GREEN-BRINDLED CRESCENT
new for the Year,
BEADED CHESTNUT
was no great find, but during the editing process we noticed a visitor
thought to be one of the
TIGER CRANEFLY
species with thanks to John Gifford.

Additionally we caught
SHUTTLE-SHAPED DART
after a short absence,
and likewise
CANARY-SHOULDERED THORN
Our second
MALLOW
of the year along with 4 distinctly different forms of
COMMON MARBLED CARPET
another of those 'light forms' of
DEEP-BROWN DART
if indeed that is what it is? If confirmed it will be sent to Higher Authority.

we do if it happens to be the 'migrant'
RUSTY-DOT PEARL
As previously stated, time ain't exactly on our side in addition to which
this was always heading to be a Bumper Post. With that in mind and for the
sake of brevity, all of today's images and videos that made the cut have been attached.
Where the 5th Golf Tee meets Janet's Horse Paddock has of late become a veritable

Fantastic to watch at 'close quarters' and being able to
produce video footage, the first we have ever managed,
of Great Spotted Woodpecker.
It may be this clip that is a little out of focus, reason unknown,
but the one where the Bird gets the Bug.
Before leaving for the Common and Merritown a
COMMA BUTTERFLY
dropped in.
At Merritown Heath
Swallows along with the odd House Martin were still passing through,
while the male Kestrel hovered some distance away and a pair of Raven
gave short shrift to the local Common Buzzard.
The bushes and small trees close by seemed alive with birds and while
all were considered 'common fare' at least there was something to have a go at.
The male Blackcap escaped the lens completely but this
