High Hopes - Pink Floyd

It was about as inevitable as the infinite number of monkeys
wielding the same number of typewriters, it was always going to happen one day!
First, and last let me tell you, job of the day is to feed the Chickens and though not arduous in itself, once you have forced yourself through the regiment of
HOUSE SPARROWS ,

mostly juveniles, which clog up the coop, with always an attempt to catch one.
 Today was the day!
"Gotchya yer little Beauty".
Otherwise, yet another morning of High Hopes (as Pink Floyd would say)
as the temperature had
peaked at +22°C so surely there was going to be a bagful of Moths to monitor??
Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
the ringing of the division bell had begun
Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway
Do they still meet there by the Cut
There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
running before times took our dreams away

Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay
Not quiet that many but, a couple of interest as for its delicacy and size the
 SWALLOW-TAILED MOTH
is a real cracked
 while
LANGMAID'S YELLOWUNDERWING
can present identification difficulties.
Won't go into detail in as much as I don't know what I am cackling about,
but the detail lies in the pattern of the underwing.
Suffice to say that this species was first recorded in Britain in 2001, with most records coming from southern coastal counties. It is likely that it is now breeding in parts of southern England.
The grass was greener, the light was brighter
When friends surrounded, the nights of wonder
There was something of a mini feeding frenzy in the paddock just around the corner
involving both
 HERRING and BLACK-HEADED GULLs
 about 20 of each
which we didn't bother to count.
 HERRING GULL

Again the Heath was disappointing, but never say die, as they will surely come!
Already the Irrigation Pond had fielded a dozen
well grown juvenile
MALLARD
not all viewable at the same time.
Not to be outdone the Gravel Pit also produced multipuls
this time of
 GREEN SANDPIPER
always a welcome sight but rarely more than a singles!
Returning from there we found not a 'rarity' but more a 'scarcity' that is the
FEREL PIGEON
and another juvenile by the look of it!
If we see c2 here annually it has been a good year
 even though the
Eco Recycling Works
would seem as good a place as any to support such a bird?
 Forever Sky Gazing
after the traps we looked heavenward to find the new
Sighs of the Times
in the residue of a couple of
Aircraft Vapour Trails along with small clusters of puffy Cumulus and whispy Cirrus Clouds
 and also to find the
MOON
had by no means set!
Otherwise, we have been 'hearing' both
 NUTHATCH
and
 TREECREEPER
daily for the last 2 weeks then both decided to put in an appearance
at more or less the same time.
The remainder were almost all down to Insect life with good numbers of
BROWN HAWKER DRAGONFLY
probably the most iredescent
BRIMSTONE BUTTERFLY
ever seen without the image doing it much justice but with
hue's changing at just about every step.
 A few
 BROAD-BODIED CHASER's
 COMMA BUTTERFLY
at time showing the
'comma' like symbol on the underwing which gives it it's name, an
ARACHNID
taken from the inside of the windscreen,
 LARGE WHITE BUTTERFLY
 and a
HOVERFLY
replacing the Spider on the screen and ending with a young
STARLING
fixing overhead cables.
Rock 'n' Roll Trivia:-
Syd Barrett, (the 'Crazy Diamond' of 'Shine on You' fame) founder of Pink Floyd, came up with the band's name by juxtaposing the first names of Bluesmen Pinkney 'Pink' Anderson and Floyd 'Dipper Boy' Council. In 1967, he said, "The name Pink Floyd came from two Blues singers from Georgia, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council".
