Art for Art's Sake - 10 CC (Part II)

When searching for inspiration for a Post Filler, in such circumstances as those recent stormy day's, we need look no further than our now completed memoir of 1,838 pages, 714,917 words and proped up by 10,757 images and destined for my 4 grandchildren only! Continuing from last Sunday's brief look at some of our other passions we'll continue the 'art theme' with a single morning that will live with me forever and considered perfectly backed-up by the American Rock Band - Mountain with thier seminal composition Theme for an Imaginary Western best played in conjuction with viewing the post and don't forget the Kleenex!!

Stepping from the Greyhound Coach in down-town

Omaha, Nebraska

on a 4th visit to the continent, on the endless persuit of visiting every state eventually, breakfast was the priority before rounding the corner of the Coach Station to view this before me

immediately reminding me of the Classic Track above.

When the wagons leave the city,

for the forest and further on.

and not just a single bronze sculpture but a seemingly endless array winding its way across the full length of the city.

Painted wagons of the morning,

dusty roads where they have gone.

Sometimes travelin' through the darkness,

met the summer comin' home.

Fallen faces by the wayside,

looked as if they might have known.

Oh, the sun was in their eye, and the desert that was dry.

In the country towns, where the laughter sounds.

Oh, the dancing and the singing,

oh the music when they played.

Oh, the fire that they started.

Oh, the girls with no regret.

Sometimes they found it, sometimes they kept it.

Often lost it along the way.

Fought each other to possess it,

sometimes died in sight of day.

Oh, the sun was in their eyes,

and the desert that dry.

In the country town

where the laughter sounds.
The End
