Driving Me up the Pole!

A little uncertain as to how / where to base our Sunday Post this week reflections of the all to Brief Encounter with the 12 year old Polish schoolgirl during the week seemed to fit the bill perfectly. As a part of conquering all of the Baltic States across a single visit back in 2004 we set off to spend a full week in each country which, by defenition

included
POLAND
Having decided to make this a cultural rather than a Wildlife expedition we headed in the first instance for Denmark, then addressing them all in a clockwise fahion from there. However, on this occassion we will make a different mix of it starting in Poland. The capital Warsaw painted a terrific picture but knowing not why interest lay more in the
MIDLAND INDUSTRIAL REGEONS
where maybe over
hundreds of years this Coal Mine
had been turned into a
SCULPTURE PARK and MUSEUM
mostly carved out of the fuel itself.
A chance to sing along with the 'in house'
Brass Band - Magic!
but by a stroke of luck and a little judgement it was
Kraków
that was about to steel the show, nothing better than fate playing its hand!
First up, but not quite as we wanted it
DAVID GILMOUR
was playing in a couple of days time and with tickets more scarce than hens teeth this was the second time I had missed a live encounter with any of The Floyd!!!!
At the Tourist Office tickets were a little more available with this unmisable visit not to wallow in the 'macabre' but more a matter of 'lest we forget'!
At the departure point early the next day, bording the coach there in the front seat sat
IRENKA
who allowed me to sit next to her (there, told you there is a god!)
getting on as if we had known each other all our lives.
During that relatively short journey she told me that she was the pianist with the
Warsaw National Phiharmonic Orchestra, and that it might be best to go our seperate ways at the site to fulfil our personal interest and meet up again back on the coach - AGREED!!
Foreboding was not the Word walking under the archway where the slogan aabove anounced..
"WORK SETS YOU FREE"
and on our return to the
city, together, I was introduced to
Fellow Musicians from the Orchesrtra
Leuba (Polish) left and from the (U.S.A.) Suzanna being kept warm!
(Now there's a Day cum Night and a Country that will not be forgotten in a Hurry)
